Another Spring Season of Sports is Underway at The Cliff

It is another spring season for our athletics at Briar Cliff University. Coaches are prepping their players and pushing them to have a successful spring season.

‘’I want to feel more comfortable and get better at techniques, ‘’ said Rhynalds. “I want to go out there and compete and make a name for myself. I am dealing with an injury and meets as well as practices have been canceled because of the weather, “said Rhynalds.

The track team is running at Concordia this upcoming week. ‘’I expect a better outcome and better results than the last track meet,” said Rhynalds. Collin Rhynalds, a freshman, is going into his first-ever college track season. “The runners are bigger, stronger, and faster, and we get to choose which event they want to run.”

‘’I appreciate how my coach motivates my teammates and I before races,” said Rhynalds. ‘’Hip mobility, getting faster, bigger, and stronger are my biggest goals for getting better and being successful this season,” he adds.

“Many teams have loads of strengths and weaknesses; we like to focus on them; the strength of the team is speed,” says Rhynalds. ‘’I have been great at hurdles since high school, and I do not intend for that to change in college.”

Many of our athletics have been training and preparing for their outdoor seasons.

‘’I am looking forward to the GPAC titles on both programs,” says Coach Ben Irlbeck, men’s and women’s golf coach. ‘’Briar Cliff has had historically good golf teams. I am confident about both men's and women’s divisions winning the title, “says Irlbeck. ‘’These are some of the best teams I have ever coached here at BCU.”

‘’I strive for my team to have the best results in the GPAC as well as nationally over the last ten years and the next,” says Irlbeck. ‘’It has been challenging regionally and nationally competitive golf programs in the Mid-Western states.”

The men’s and women’s varsity golf teams will travel to Las Vegas, February 20-21.

According to Irlbeck, experience is one of the biggest things he wants his team to gain right now, especially with desert golf. He expects this team to be the best it can be.

‘’The mental side of this sport is it is the most difficult to master.’’ Irlbeck says. ‘’I like to work to find ways to connect with players every day and their mental game. Health, confidence, and trust are essential for success this season.”

‘’The strength of this team is the good people on this team that come from sound families, and the ones who want to make the world a better place,” says Irlbeck.

The Briar Cliff golf team established itself in the conference and has the potential to come back into the national scene.
